Winning . . . and Losing

You win some and  you lose some. That's what our last week of January looked like at least.

And no, I'm not talking about Dad. Thankfully. He's home recovering from his quad bypass, and we resumed normal sometime in the middle of the week last week.

Or we tried to.

We had a few hiccups that definitely changed our plans, but we learned a while back that hiccups may modify some plans but they do not necessarily stop things from happening altogether.

Last Sunday night as I wrote the blog, I noticed my speakers were not working in my computer. This wouldn't bother me so much except that my income-earning job requires me to have working sound. A trip to the local geek shop and a few hours yielded an answer: the speakers were burned out (do not ask me how that happens. I think I'm just lucky.) Thankfully, we have a backup computer, and I'm cranking out this little blog on it now (and working the income-earning job).

Training resumed.

Wednesday night our washing machine decided to quit, with a full reservoir of water and laundry in it. Jason made plans to take a trip to the big city Friday on his day off to find an adequate replacement.

Thursday the geek shop called with some bad news. While working on my computer, a technician in inadvertently dropped my hard drive. According to the repentant geek on the phone, the harddrive is damaged in such a way that they cannot retrieve data from it.

That night, training resumed.

In fact, I'm sure glad we HAVE training. Stressers like the increasing pile of everyday and stinky laundry or the knowledge that pictures from Chattanooga and the rest of our last few years may be lost (I'm planning on talking to the geeks again) could easily send a person into a tailspin. I admit, I had my moments of tears and frustration. However, a combination of a good attitude and the time to exude some pent-up frustration on a bicycle sure helped make the situation appear not quite that awful.

Friday, Jason sacrificed a workout to try to resolve the laundry debacle. We all had fresh jammies that night thanks to his work. Then Saturday he woke up and hit the bike hard with a long indoor ride. A nice-sized group joined him after he had already lost an hour's worth of sweat, and with a few kid-initiated breaks, even I got a good spin in.

So, what's the lesson learned this week: again, we're just focusing on getting the best workout in that we can when we have the opportunity. Jason's going to try a few new things this week to incorporate a strength routine and better sleep habits overall. I'm most likely going to be putting some late nights in to try to catch up on the income-earning work that suffered when I spent those days in the hospital with the family.

Twenty-one weeks until we travel west for IMCD!
